Good Scotch

I have been around horses my whole life, but never owned one until 2 and a half years ago when I bought my 'JD'. His registered name is Inspired By Good Scotch. He is a Grandson of Hot Scotch Man on top and a Great Grandson of Doc Bar on the bottom. I did a lot of research about the bloodlines before I settled on him and I have to say. . . It was the best decision I have ever made!

JD is 3 years old now and I plan on starting to breed him this Spring. We show in the American Ranch Horse Association and he is doing great. I gave him an extra year before we started doing much riding and in his first riding class ever, which was just a walk/jog class in February 2008 he placed 2nd then in his first walk/jog/lope class in May he placed 3rd in a class of 21!! I can't tell you how wonderful he is. I can put my 6 year old brother on him and pony him around and he is on his best behavior. . . What 3 year old (especially stallion) does that!? I wish I could put into words how much this horse means to me. Not only is he my show horse, but since he's the only one I have for now he is also my trail horse. The very first trail he ever went on he led like he'd been there everyday of his life, never even so much as twitched at anything moving in the woods!

Phantom

I'm an owner of a son of Hot Scotch Man.  I have been around horses since a young teenager, now 52, and he is the most enjoyable equine partner I have ever known.  His sense and seemingly enjoyment of life and competition is surely something to behold.  He continues to learn and respond to training even at 19 years young.  I still rope and team pen him when we can.  We trail ride at least once a week.  He enjoys being a mentor horse to some of my neighbors more unruly endurance rides the most.  He has a great calming nature to equine and human alike.

Phantom is a tri-color buckskin with 2 blue eyes.  He stands a very strong 15.2 and is about 1200lbs.  He is not framed like scotch but has a lot of white.  Since one of his favorite activities is rolling in the mud, he is usually black.  Other than me, his best friend is our Chocolate Lab, Brandy.  They chase each other around the paddock on a daily basis and stop to touch noses when tired.  Phantom also has several herds of deer that come and visit all day.  They meet each other at the fence and I guess try to figure out what kind of deer – horse they are.  When I call out, "Want to go see the girls", Phantom runs and jumps with joy.  He has many mare girlfriends up the road and he knows that's the clue he's going to visit.  He's known as the "Big Dog" of the neighborhood because of his sweet and gentle personality.  He is the pony for all the neighborhood birthday parties.  At Christmas, Phantom dons reindeer antlers and I a Santa suit and we visit the neighborhood children with presents.  The adults enjoy the visit just as much.  After all, everyone loves him and he loves all as well.
